Class Description
The repeated lockdowns and the isolation they produced, the experience of death un-mourned, and the accelerated processes of dispossession, racialization, and control (including the digitalization of everyday life), have been associated during the pandemic with expanding forms of mental pain. In this seminar we will draw from the work of anthropologists and artists, psychoanalysts, psychiatrists, art historians, and philosophers, who have reflected on madness, culture, and repair in collective and psychic life, and have explored the spaces and forms of what can be called art-cure: "invisible bridges" enabling passages and translations, between medical, ritual, religious and artistic practices, towards a reactivation of desire, and the possibility of dreaming. The seminar will include readings and collaborative group reflection on artworks and film.
