Course Catalog Description
Freshman and sophomore seminars offer lower division students the opportunity to explore an intellectual topic with a faculty member and a group of peers in a small-seminar setting. These seminars are offered in all campus departments; topics vary from department to department and from semester to semester. Enrollment limits are set by the faculty, but the suggested limit is 18.
Class Description
Two hours of lecture-discussion. Prerequisites none. This is a freshman-
sophomore class. This course looks into the dynamics of literature and politics in
Vietnam and the Philippines by asking the following questions: How have writers
articulated their beliefs on colonialism, human rights, gender and class through
poetry and fiction? When does ideology inform literary techniques? How can we
study specific genres such as prison literature, guerrilla literature, and underground
newspapers and literary magazines?
