3 hours of instructor presentation of course materials per week, 5 hours of outside work hours per week, and 1 hours of the exchange of opinions or questions on course material per week.

Course Catalog Description

The course will present the major human and natural activities that lead to release of hazardous materials into the environment as well as the causal links between chemical, physical, and biological hazards in the environment and their impact on human health. The basic principles of toxicology will be presented including dose-response relationships, absorption, distribution, metabolism, and excretion of chemicals. The overall role of environmental risks in the pattern of human disease, both nationally and internationally, will be covered. The engineering and policy strategies, including risk assessment, used to evaluate and control these risks will be introduced.

Public Health is an impacted major and PB HLTH 150B is a major requirement. During Phase 1 and Phase 2, seats are reserved for Public Health majors and any remaining seats available will be released to non-Public Health majors in the adjustment period. Credit Restrictions

Students will receive no credit for PB HLTH 150B after completing BEHS 160, PB HLTH 150, or PB HLTH N150B. A deficient grade in PB HLTH 150B may be removed by taking PB HLTH 150, or PB HLTH N150B.
