Course Catalog Description
This course covers: one, economic frameworks for understanding environmental justice, and
two, empirical approaches for evaluating environmental justice outcomes. This course emphasizes empirical applications and the assignments involve working with data and evaluating data
sources and metadata.
Class Description
Both the undergraduate and graduate course cover (i) economic frameworks for understanding environmental justice; and (ii) empirical approaches for evaluating environmental justice outcomes. Both courses emphasize empirical applications of quantitative and economic approaches and the assignments involve working with data and evaluating data sources and metadata. The course includes regular assignments, and an in person midterm and final exam.
The graduate course additionally covers econometric approaches to causal inference, as well as issues in data selection and bias. The graduate course includes regular assignments and additionally includes an independent research project, with several milestones due during the
semester, which are in lieu of the midterm and final exam.
Class Notes
Background in statistics (STAT), data science (DATA) or economics (ECON) is helpful but not
required. --
