Course Catalog Description

An intensive, accelerated course satisfying concurrently the requirements of the UC Entry Level Writing Requirement and the first half of Reading and Composition. Readings will include imaginative, expository and argumentative texts representative of the range of those encountered in the undergraduate curriculum and will feature authors from diverse social and cultural backgrounds and perspectives. Instruction in writing a range of discourse forms and in the revision of papers.

Class Description

Real Life in the 21st Century. What that is might be different for everyone. This course is going to ask you through various writing assignments what that actually means to you. What I’ve heard and learned in part is that you’re tired of social media, the internet, etc, even as you continue to consume it. You can tell me freely if I’m wrong about this. Through discussions about social media, the economy, the power of the tech industry and its seeming decline on a daily basis, we'll investigate societal behavior, what might be up ahead or next, and in the process look at some literature out of the past that flies in the face of our very fast moving, white lying, gaslighting society.
