Course Catalog Description
An intensive, accelerated course satisfying concurrently the requirements of the UC Entry Level Writing Requirement and the first half of Reading and Composition. Readings will include imaginative, expository and argumentative texts representative of the range of those encountered in the undergraduate curriculum and will feature authors from diverse social and cultural backgrounds and perspectives. Instruction in writing a range of discourse forms and in the revision of papers.
Class Description
How can a song imitating police brutality empower its victims? How can a groundbreaking hero perpetuate unsettling stereotypes? In this sustained exploration of how we use, and are sometimes used by, art and other products of contemporary culture, you will analyze a diverse array of texts and other media (ranging from music, to film, to graffiti, to paintings and sculpture) toward the mastery of various academic techniques and approaches with an aim toward refining your unique voice and powers
as a writer.
