Majority of the mainstream and current environmental education does not focus on and center indigenous voices both in terms of solutions and ecological knowledge; the impact of colonial history on the present environment in Africa, Asia, Oceania, and the Americas is also usually not explored in depth or detail in the Western environmental space. We believe that covering global indigenous environmental knowledge and history is crucial to understanding how we can revive our ecosystems and communities. The environmental cause is inextricably tied with the anti-capitalist & anti-colonial movements. Centering BIPOC experiences that are greater than tragedy can shape what we build. Sharing this knowledge with the Berkeley community can alter the actions of future environmentalists in navigating possible environmental solutions from an equitable perspective.
