Course Catalog Description

The 290 courses cover current topics of research interest in electrical engineering. The course content may vary from semester to semester.

Class Description

This one credit hour course will discuss scaling challenges pertinent to the modern day CMOS. Over the last twenty years, CMOS technology has seen major shifts. These include strained source and drain, high-K metal gate, transition from planar structure to three dimensional FINFET structure etc. CMOS is at the crossroads again and another major transition from FINFETs to RibbonFETs is underway. This course will discuss the rationale for these changes, challenges that were encountered and accomplishments that made the transition possible. In addition, the course will also discuss what is the most likely path that CMOS technology may adopt in the future.
