Class Description
This course will offer a unique opportunity for undergraduate students to engage in an intergenerational dialogue with members of UC Berkeley’s Osher Lifelong Learning Institute. The topic of this semester’s intergenerational dialog will be the politics of identity with a particular but not exclusive focus on the United States. We live in a moment of extreme contention and discord when it comes to certain aspects of our identity, with discussions over things such as systemic racism or preferred pronouns or transgender participation in sports breaking down quickly into bitter, accusatory rancor. This intergenerational dialogue is intended to find a path toward civil discussion in a way that is engaging, innovative, transformative, and empowering.
