Basic theory of measurement in Quantum Mechanics and its application to a variety of practical systems. Topics include projective and weak measurements, continuous measurements and quantum noise, entanglement and its detection, "standard quantum limits" in signal detection and ways to avoid them; example systems will include various qubit architectures, photodetectors, cavities, gravitational wave detectors.
