Course Catalog Description

Designed primarily to give majors in Asian American studies, Chicano studies, Latin American studies, ethnic studies, and Native American studies elementary training in theoretical approaches to the study of race and ethnicity. Emphasis will be placed on writing and discussion. For a precise schedule of offerings, see department catalog during pre-enrollment week each semester.

Class Description

This course centers the Caribbean within Latinx Studies & Ethnic Studies. In this seminar, we will attend to Latine/x and Caribbean archives and performances to trace how Latinidad has been historically constructed and imagined otherwise. Invoking Feminist & Queer Caribbean scholars and artists, we will consider what an emphasis on the erotic illuminates about Latine/x and Caribbean histories and geographies.
