Course Catalog Description

This course will cover the principles and practices of managing data at scale, with a focus on use cases in data analysis and machine learning. We will cover the entire life cycle of data management and science, ranging from data preparation to exploration, visualization and analysis, to machine learning and collaboration, with a focus on ensuring reliable, scalable operationalization.

-declared Data Science major
-prerequisites met (CS 61B and Data C100 with C- or better in each)
-have not taken and not enrolled in CS 186 - Intro to Dat.. show more

Requirements for priority consideration in Data 101:

-declared Data Science major
-prerequisites met (CS 61B and Data C100 with C- or better in each)
-have not taken and not enrolled in CS 186 - Intro to Database Systems
-on track to complete degree in Spring 2024 or Summer 2024
-will not have completed 7 units of Computational & Inferential Depth requirement prior to Spring 2024 start
-able to attend all exams - Data 101 will allow enrollment with time conflicts but will NOT provide alternate exam times. Do not enroll if you have a conflict with the final exam or will be unable to attend class on exam days.

If you do not meet all of these requirements, it is very unlikely that you will be admitted to Data 101 and it is not advised that you add to the waitlist.

Requisites

  • COMPSCI 61B or INFO 206B or equivalent courses in programming with a C- or better, or Pass; AND COMPSCI C100/DATA C100/STAT C100 or COMPSCI 189 or INFO 251 or DATA 144 or equivalent upper-division course in data science with a C- or better, or Pass.
