Course Catalog Description
Investigates specific genres in Asian American literature (e.g., autobiography, biography, drama, etc.) in terms of formal characteristics, innovations, comparisons of works from various subgroups in relation to counterparts in dominant Anglo-American tradition.
Class Description
This course explores stories centered on young Asian Americans finding their places in a diversifying America and changing the nation in the process. It follows extraordinary writers from the Civil Rights era to the present who've claimed the genre of coming-of-age stories to narrate the possibilities for young people of color to develop in contemporary America, which is simultaneously the fitful story of the nation’s own coming-of-age.
