Course Catalog Description

This is a strictly introductory course. It presumes no formal training of any kind on the part of the students. Emphasis will be on organization and delivery with goals of improving control over speaking habits and enunciation. Part of the intent of the course is to introduce students to the rudiments of the rhetorical theory which lies behind the practice of public speaking.

Class Description

This introductory course is designed to improve your public speaking skills and make you more comfortable speaking in front of an audience. Students will learn the fundamentals of public speaking and gain confidence in their oral communication (and listening) skills by delivering speeches and presentations for different occasions and audiences in a supportive classroom environment. Students will not only study and analyze effective speaking strategies but also deliver four speeches of their own (storytelling, persuasive, informative, etc.) on topics they select. Welcome!
