Class Description

Attack on Titan (Shingeki no Kyojin) is based on the Manga of the same name written by Hajime Isayama. Three huge walls protect what is left of humanity from giant man-eating titans. 100 years of peace are shattered with the sudden appearance of a gigantic titan. The show centers around Eren Jaeger and his outlook on justice and freedom as he and those close to him (Mikasa Ackerman and Armin Arlett) navigate the chaos in an attempt to survive. This course will look at the anime Attack on Titan holistically by examining it through many lenses and discussing how these components work together to build such a beautifully crafted story and world. There are currently 87 episodes of anime released on various platforms; you will watch all of these episodes throughout the semester. We will focus on, discuss, and write about AOT in two major categories: the components of a story and themes. This class will consist of both a little lecturing and a lot of class and group discussions; we encourage everyone to be open-minded, respectful, and committed to intellectual conversation. The goal of this Decal is to help you find and express your voice/opinions through writing and discussion.
