Class Description
Having a great portfolio is key to landing a job in the design profession. This course aims to help get a student’s portfolio off the ground by showing good and bad examples, strategies on creating impressions for reviewers, and a step-by-step guide on how to put one’s first portfolio together. We will review/critique student portfolios together as a way to learn and build up on each other’s work. Students will receive additional feedback from design professionals and guest reviewers on how to refine and push their portfolios past the first finish line.
***This is an eight-week course (September 9th to October 28th)

Enrollment in this class is limited to UC Berkeley upperclassmen (third-year/junior/5th semester and up) students pursuing an interest in design (via the Berkeley Certificate in Design Innovation or other pathways). Graduate students in the Masters of Design (MDes) program can audit this course (no extra tuition cost incurred if you audit the course).
APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS:
Because of 1:1 nature of the course, limited number of seats are available. Interested students (both those planning to enroll or audit) must submit a brief application that describes at least three projects they would like to add to their portfolio.
ATTENDANCE & TIME CONFLICT POLICIES:
The campus enrollment system allows students to have time conflicts in their schedule, to accommodate class shopping at the beginning of the semester and courses that have flexible attendance policies. However, this is only a temporary solution for the beginning of the semester; students must resolve any time conflicts to stay enrolled in your course. Institute policy is that students must attend DES INV class meetings, and instructors are in no way obligated to accommodate issues that arise from students’ decisions to enroll in classes with time conflicts. show less
