Course Catalog Description
Training in writing expository prose. Instruction in expository writing in conjunction with reading literature. Satisfies the first half of the Reading and Composition requirement.
Class Description
In this course we will focus on Faulkner's short stories, though we will also read a short novel and a novel that was originally published as a collection of short stories, with special attention to the legacy of American slavery as well as Faulkner's experimental approaches to narration and worldbuilding.
The goal of this class is to equip students with techniques for and practice in analytical and argumentative writing. In addition to completing regular short writing assignments, students will write and revise two essays over the course of the semester.
