Catalog Course Description

This course will trace the study of justice and its influence on behavior in social psychology. From the starting position that human behavior is wholly motivated by self-interest, the extensive history of concern with fairness will be discussed. The course will emphasize the impact on social psychological thought of such perspectives as moral reasoning, relative deprivation, equity theory, distributive justice, retributive justice, and procedural justice. Topics to be addressed include the meaning of fairness, individual and cultural differences in justice beliefs, and the relative impact of fairness and nonfairness concerns in such applied areas as management and public policy endorsement.

Spring Term
