Class Description

The subject of this class will be perturbations of Hilbert space operators from a viewpoint involving algebras of operators. Underlying the multivariable generalizations of the classical Kato - Rosenblum  and Weyl - von Neumann - Kuroda theorems is a numerical invariant, the quasicentral modulus. Time permitting, I may expand into related topics, the relation of Kolmogorov - Sinai dynamical entropy to this invariant or the recent noncommutative analogy of the invariant to nonlinear potential theory quantities.

Class Notes

Prerequisites

The spectral theorem for bounded selfadjoint operators.
