Course Catalog Description
Topics in Chicana/o literature and culture.
Class Description
Latino/a/x poets comprise a significant part of the contemporary poetry field; they write in fixed forms and free verse; they influence the trajectory of digital aesthetics and spoken-word performance; they have built an impressive number of institutions and journals dedicated to their craft; and they pay homage to a genealogy that extends back to the nineteenth century in multiple languages. Yet Latino/a/x poetry remains a relatively small presence in scholarship on contemporary poetry and poetics. This course will offer a general introduction to the field and a guided exploration of four major themes: history, language, movement, and form.
