Course Catalog Description
Advanced seminar in Asian American Studies with topics to be announced at the beginning of each semester.
Class Description
This is an interdisciplinary course split into three parts: One part is the reading and study of Palestinian poetry from the early 20th century to today which runs through Palestine’s diasporic branches as well as transnational literary engagements with special focus on resonances at UC Berkeley. In the tradition of June Jordan’s Poetry for the People Program, students will be reading poetry in context as a method for understanding Palestinian geography, culture, and history. The second part of the course is a writing workshop where students will read and edit each other's work, by the end of the course students are required to turn in three edited poems. The final part of the course is a collectively organized public poetry reading event.
