Course Catalog Description

Introduction to the principal areas, problems, and concepts of psychology. This course is required for the major; students not considering a psychology major are directed to 2.

General Enrollment Guidelines:

Time‑conflict override requests will not be considered, even if the course is recorded.

If the class is full, please monitor enrollment periodically, as seats may open if students drop.

The Psychology Department cannot accommodate section‑change requests. Only students who are already enrolled may switch sections via CalCentral if space is available. At the start of the semester, you may also speak with your instructor or GSI about potential section changes.

To be officially registered, you must be enrolled in both the lecture and the required discussion section.

Psychology does not issue permission codes, except for Honors Program courses, application‑only seminar courses, and DeCal courses. show less

Credit Restrictions

Students will receive no credit for PSYCH 1 after completing PSYCH 2, PSYCH W1, PSYCH N1, or XPSYCH 1. A deficient grade in PSYCH 1 may be removed by taking PSYCH W1, PSYCH N1, or XPSYCH 1.
