Course Catalog Description

Readings from the Hebrew Bible in English translation.

Class Description

This course is an introduction to the Hebrew Bible as literature through a series of curated encounters. We will disentangle the ways that the sacred lore and religious teachings of the Jewish scriptures followed (and transformed) literary conventions of their time, and profoundly influenced literature in their wake. All texts will be read in English translation. There are no prerequisites for this course.
