Course Catalog Description
This course is intended for STEM majors. An introduction to differential and integral calculus of functions of one variable, with applications and an introduction to transcendental functions. Prior to Fall 2025, this course was offered as Math 1A.

In Fall 2026, Math 51 has two options - high-touch and low-touch formats. Lecture 1 (27288) and all associated discussion sections (101-125) are high-touch. If you want the most support possible, you should enroll in this section. In addition to attending lectures, you are required to attend a Graduate Student-led Discussion section for three hours each week. Attendance will be mandatory and will count towards your final grade.
