Class Description
This course will expose students to sociological tools as a way to interrogate the relationship between race and capital as it relates to the unprecedented rise in incarceration in the United States. Although rooted in sociology, the course will rely on an interdisciplinary approach to study. The course uses elements of geography, Black Studies, the mature Marx, abolition, and various movement histories to form a clear and coherent view of mass incarceration and prisons. This course will absolutely prepare you to undo common myths and gain a grounded understanding of what we are facing.
