Course Catalog Description

We currently live in a society riddled with prejudice and inequality. In this class we will explore the emergence and development of prejudice across the lifespan, while paying close attention to the first 10 years of life. This class aims to: 1) foster a critical understanding of how and why prejudice has been maintained across generations and 2) foster intentional thought about how create and maintain a more equitable society through a psychological lens.

Class Notes

50% of seats are released at the beginning of Phase I. All seats are reserved for Psych majors. There is no waitlist. Additional seats may be added to impacted classes (up to 15% more if needed).

More seats will be released during Phase 2, and additional seats will be added during the Adjustment Period. Starting Phase II, Psych enrollment restriction will be removed, and seats are available to all UC Berkeley students on a first-come, first-serve basis. A small waitlist will be added.

Class is synchronous. No time conflict enrollment allowed. Enrollment of students with a time conflict will never be considered.

Credit Restrictions

Students will receive no credit for PSYCH 163 after completing PSYCH 163. A deficient grade in PSYCH 163 may be removed by taking PSYCH 163.
