Class Description

Social Impact Tuesdays is a series of interactive workshops to build student changemaking and social impact skills. This semester we’re featuring workshops from four field leaders and Impact Fellows, focused on leveraging policy and business to build health: Rainbow Rubin, Director of Science at Breast Cancer Prevention Partners, will lead “The Problem with Plastics,” examining the health effects of plastic pollution, the current state of plastics legislation and how to translate plastics science into better policy. Lisa Simpson, former CEO of Academy Health, will lead “Making Evidence Make a Difference,” exploring effective strategies to enhance the use of evidence in formulating and implementing policy. Thomas Goetz, co-founder of Building H and former Executive Editor of Wired, will lead “Radical Accountability: Corporate Responsibility for Public Health,” investigating how everyday products and services impact health, and strategies to hold companies accountable for their health impacts. Claudia Williams, Chief Social Impact Officer at Berkeley Public Health and former White House advisor, will lead “Public Health in the New Federal Administration,” exploring how to advance our work on health and equity in the next few years.
