Class Description
All of us, in one way or another, have interacted with the healthcare system. With the growing inequality in America and the large proportion of uninsured Americans, chances are that everyone knows someone that has been adversely affected by not having adequate health insurance. This course offers an in-depth exploration of the American healthcare system, focusing on health policy and its impact on public health outcomes. Students will examine the structure, financing, and regulation of healthcare, with an emphasis on key topics including healthcare reform, insurance models, and the role of government and private sectors in health delivery. Whether you are a prospective politician, doctor, public health professional, economist, or someone who will utilize healthcare in the future, this class will teach the fundamentals of healthcare policies in the United States and around the world, and also give you the tools to navigate the healthcare system yourself.
