Course Catalog Description

This is an introduction to non-relativistic quantum physics. General quantum mechanics will be taught in the context of technological relevance, including the brief history and introduction to quantum mechanics, the Schrodinger equation and its solution in one and three dimensions, the formalism of quantum mechanics, and the perturbation theory. Connections to basic atomic, laser and materials physics will be highlighted. The course will prepare students with the basics of quantum physics for entering the emerging field of quantum computation, quantum communications and other quantum information science and technologies.
