Instruction in writing a range of discourse forms and in the revision of papers.
Class Description
No matter which form a family takes— nuclear, adoptive, foster, same-sex, extended, absent, or present— it remains pivotal to our lives, shaping who we are. Family units are mostly caring but often complex. We will explore family variations and how they intersect with socioeconomic structures. To help us answer questions about familial arrangements, we will read God Help the Child by Toni Morrison, Dear Octopus by Dodie Smith, and Where the Past Begins by Amy Tan. We will also read multiple shorter texts and watch related films/documentaries.
