Course Catalog Description
The synthesis and purification of organic compounds will be explored. Natural product chemistry will be introduced. Advanced spectroscopic methods including infrared, ultraviolet, and nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy and mass spectrometry will be used to analyze products prepared and/or isolated. Qualitative analysis of organic compounds will be covered.

Co-enrollment or a previous passing grade in Chem 3B is required. The enrollment system will require this as Chem 3B is a co-requisite of Chem 3BL. Because of the co-requisite requirement, students will not be able to join the Chem 3BL waitlist unless they are enrolled in (not waitlisted for) Chem 3B, or have previously passed Chem 3B. The course pre-requisite will be strictly enforced by the enrollment system. Students not meeting the pre-requisite will not be able to enroll. Time conflicts are not allowed. - CHEM 3AL with min grade of C-. Co-requisite: CHEM 3B with min grade of C- or co-enrollment in CHEM 3B.
Credit Restrictions
Students will receive no credit for CHEM 3BL after taking CHEM 12B.
