Course Catalog Description
Advanced seminar in Asian American Studies with topics to be announced at the beginning of each semester.
Class Description
This course will examine the history of Asian American activism in the United States. Drawing from diverse intersectional, comparative, and emergent approaches to the study of race, culture, and politics, we shall analyze the social construction of Asian American identities within the U.S. This inquiry is grounded in the recognition that these identities are created, disputed, and transformed in relation to one another and other forms of oppression and resistance.
Because of the “seminar-style” nature of this course, timely readings and active participation are critical to its success. Writing assignments will serve as opportunities for greater analysis and synthesis of course material presented, as well as original research.
