Course Catalog Description
Special Topics courses offer students opportunities for more concentrated focus beyond general curriculum offerings. Courses may align with an instructor’s own research, they may propose topics responding to contemporary events and issues, or they may offer a specialized skill. Primarily intended for advanced undergraduates and graduates in Art Practice but open to others.
Class Description
Through lecture, discussion and open studio, this course will provide an introduction to
performance, social sculpture, and an overview of the genealogies and the interdisciplinary
formations related to these mediums. We will use collaboration, participatory embodiment,
and the social as material form for experimentation. We will combine language, concept,
action, place, and object with civic engagement and spectatorship to shape, mold, and
structure the social. Methods and strategies will be shared via in class workshops and readings;
students are required to share their experimentation formally and engage in critique and
dialogue following presentations.
