Course Catalog Description
An introduction to Armenian language and culture, aiming to give students basic competence in all four skills and an introduction to traditional and contemporary Armenian culture.
Class Description
Course Description: This course is the continuation of Armenian 1A. It is designed for students who have an elementary foundation in the workings of the language. It continues to introduce students to both Eastern and Western Armenian through comparative lessons. Emphasis is placed on the basics of modern Armenian grammar, as well as the four language skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing.
Prerequisites: Armenian 1A or consent of the instructor.
Requirements: Weekly homework; reading aloud; four quizzes; classroom activities; presentation; Words in Action performance; and take-home final exam.
Required Text: Practical Textbook of Western Armenian by Haroutiun Kurkjian (any edition),
available in print at abrilbooks.com or electronically through e-reserves
