Class Description
Using an evolutionary and comparative framework, this course seeks to center diversity and variation in the study of the human brain. Our goal will be to understand how the brain works and how it has come to work in the ways that it does, while challenging the normative conception of a typical or average ("the") human brain. To achieve this goal, the course will integrate readings in the anthropology of neurodiversity alongside lessons on the structure, function, development, and evolutionary history of various human and animal brains.
