Course Catalog Description
This Changemaker Microcourse will focus on developing critical analysis and practical public health skill building related to making change as a public health professional.
Class Description
A growing body of literature highlights the role that narrative plays in inspiring community action and influencing policymakers. Narratives also underlie how we conceptualize and engage with communities—both those we belong to and those with which we seek to collaborate. By the end of this course students will be familiar with the theoretical literature regarding narrative engagement, ethical challenges inherent in public health storytelling for community engagement and opportunities for self-reflection through narrative. Participating students will enhance their skills in analyzing and building narratives, including techniques of effective non-fiction storytelling such as character, concrete detail, innovative structure and scene.
