Course Catalog Description
In the context of inter-Scandinavian communication, students will acquire the oral proficiency necessary to function in authentic situations of language use with respect to grammatical, functional, and sociolinguistic skills in their own target language (Danish, Finnish, Norwegian, or Swedish). Students will read and interpret literary and nonliterary texts from a cultural cross-cultural perspective. Oral and written midterm, a final project, and a final oral and written exam.
Class Description
This course teaches intermediate Finnish. Students will further their communicative competence in all four language skills (speaking, listening, reading, and writing) within a cultural context. Students develop communicative skills in everyday and formal situations to exchange information meaningfully and efficiently. Students will work on vocabulary, syntax, and idioms and continue to familiarize themselves with colloquial, authentic Finnish. Students give short presentations in Finnish throughout the course.
