Course Catalog Description
In the context of inter-Scandinavian communication, students will acquire the oral proficiency necessary to function in authentic situations of language use with respect to grammatical, functional, and sociolinguistic skills in their own target language (Danish, Finnish, Norwegian, or Swedish). Students will read and interpret literary and nonliterary texts from a cultural cross-cultural perspective. Oral and written midterm, a final project, and a final oral and written exam.
Class Description
This course teaches intermediate Danish. Students will further their communicative competence in all four foreign language skills (speaking, listening, reading and writing) within a cultural context. We will also explore Danish society and popular culture by watching films and reading newspapers and magazines, to further students’ abilities to interact with cultural competence and understanding, and we will discuss how Danish language skills can be used beyond the classroom.
Please note you must enroll in both the Friday lecture/workshop series and the target language section to fulfill course requirements.
