Course Catalog Description
Study of the textual strategies whereby the masses and mass culture emerge as objects of anxiety, hope, and scrutiny for social theorists of the 19th and 20th centuries.
Class Description
Taking our lead from thinkers of the Frankfurt School and the Black Radical Tradition, this course will explore the socio-political significance of popular cultural forms, alongside the notion of critical art, against which popular music, film and literature are often presented.
