Class Description
EPS 198: Careers in the Earth and Planetary Sciences and Beyond
This course will provide interactive career-development activities and mentoring to help you transition from university life to a fulfilling and financially successful long-term career. We will focus on all types of careers that can be pursued with undergraduate or graduate degrees in Earth and Planetary Science, including traditional science careers, jobs in tech and finance that leverage quantitative backgrounds, and creative career paths. In addition to our small group meetings, the seminar will include occasional visits by department alumni who will discuss their journey from Berkeley to their current career. Activities may include individual development plan completion, curriculum vitae and resume preparation, cover letter composition, in-person and online networking, practice interviewing, and writing of fellowship and job applications. Peer review will be a critical part of this course. Specific topics will be selected by discussion with students and instructors.
