Course Catalog Description
The purpose of this course is to further develop students' Armenian proficiency in all four language skills, using discussion, oral presentations, written assignments, and a variety of readings (literature, non-fiction, folklore, newspaper articles, etc.) chosen partly for their cultural significance and partly based on student needs and interests. Emphasis on particular skills (e.g. reading) depending on student needs and interests.
Class Description
This mixed-levels (intermediate and advanced) language course covers issues in Armenian culture and contemporary society by engaging with a wide range of authentic texts, including poems, short stories, novels, films, and a play. Students will hone their language skills through discussions, oral presentations, and written assignments that invite them to analyze the readings and viewings. Students will also practice writing creatively, select readings based on their individual needs and interests, and conduct an oral history interview with a family or community member.
Requirements: weekly homework (reading and annotation assignments); weekly reading aloud; three quizzes; journaling; class participation; two presentations; performative reading of a play; and a recorded oral interview with a family or community member.
