Course Catalog Description
Course examines current problems and issues in psychology.
Class Description
In this seminar—through group work, individual written work, lectures and oral presentations—students will gain a comprehensive overview of a range of transdiagnostic evidence-based psychological treatments (EBPTs). We will examine the theory underpinning each EBPT, we will examine the evidence-base, and we will examine whether and how these EBPTs are being implemented. The treatments to be covered include cognitive behavior therapy, dialectical behavior therapy among others. This course will give you training in reading primary research articles and review papers. Primary research articles and review papers are a very different reading experience, relative to reading textbooks, so be prepared to stretch and grow! You will also learn how to review the literature and find relevant peer-reviewed papers. The big picture goal of the course is to impart a sense of urgency in finding new ways to enable access to EBPTs to make a measurable and sizable dint in the current mental health crisis.
