Course Catalog Description
Aimed at fostering advanced conversation and communication skills, this course explores Russian culture through communication. Contains reading, films, vocabulary building, listening exercises, and speaking activities. The course can be taken for two or three credits; for two credits, attendance is required for two classes per week; for three credits, three classes per week.
Class Description
This course focuses on oral communication skills. The goal is to help students develop confidence conversing in Russian on various topics beyond routine social and survival needs. Among other topics, we will explore Russian art history, architecture, gardens, parks, and museums. Since the discussions will be based on reading, listening to lectures, and watching movies, special attention will be given to improving listening and reading comprehension. Together we will decide on a project (or projects) for the semester. It might be interviewing Russian artists and architects in the community, writing and staging a play, or filming a movie.
Grades will be based on attendance/participation, completion of assignments, oral tests, presentations, and a final oral interview.
