The Medicinal Nutrition decal explores nutrition as medical therapy to prepare students for a future in healthcare and for personal development in health behaviors. Students will learn preventative nutritional medicine, culinary methods, healthy living, and scientific approaches uncovering the effects of nutrition in medicine. Students will listen to lectures, participate in projects, complete at-home assignments, and participate in discussions to obtain a p/np grade in this course.
After successfully completing this course, you will be able to:
- Know basic nutrition concepts and apply them to your personal life
- Identify connections between diseases and nutrition
- Understand the cellular pathways of vitamins and minerals
- Understand the relationship between nutrition and the brain
- Understand the balance of the gut microbiome and the gut-brain axis
- Increase awareness of food intake and health concerns
- Recognize disparities in nutrition and food access
