Course Catalog Description
The study of different approaches and contemporary methodologies for analyzing performances of various kinds within their cultural and historical context. Specific methodologies can include archival research, field methods, etc. The specific focus in any one course is contingent upon the focus of the instructor.
Class Description
This class introduces a variety of approaches to advanced performance studies research including critical ethnography, participatory action research, archives and collections, and practice in/as research. In addition to readings and writing assignments, we will engage with various practice-based projects that heighten body awareness through the senses. Students will further their own approaches to sustained research projects with a critical examination of the role of researcher, evidence, and systems of knowledge production.
