Group studies of selected topics which vary over time.

This course is focused on nonprofit organizations and their role in alleviating poverty in the global south. This class will allow students to be exposed to some of the current debates around various strategies for global poverty alleviation, as well as provide critiques of these strategies. The course will start by introducing the role of nonprofits in the development field, and explore characteristics of effective nonprofits versus harmful non-profit practices. We will then move into the methods of nonprofit change and their interactions with different actors. The class will then focus on the strategies and angles of addressing poverty with guest speakers and practitioners to expose students to the work and its challenges.
