Course Catalog Description

Topics in Chicana/o literature and culture.

Class Description

This course will survey major US Latino/a/x poets, including José Martí, Julia de Burgos, Alurista, Lorna Dee Cervantes, Pedro Pietri, Sandra Maria Esteves, Victor Hernández Cruz, Alberto Ríos, Gloria Anzaldúa, Jimmy Santiago Baca, Sandra Cisneros, Ray González, Carmen Giménez Smith, Javier Zamora, Rosa Alcalá, and Urayoán Noel. We will consider the unique aperture Latino/a/x poetry offers for the study of US racial formation, migration, social movements, digital aesthetics, and identity. This class satisfies the Literatures in English requirement for the English major.
