This course examines the historical and current efforts by Latine students and their communities to confront system inequities in education by either reforming existing schooling practices or creating completely new alternatives. Students will explore the resiliency demonstrated by Latine students to survive/thrive as they reposition themselves in this legacy and reflect on their own educational experiences and success. Throughout, this course will also engage students to consider various schooling models towards reimagining schooling and go beyond its functionalist approach, realizing the potential to also cultivate organic intellectuals for the empowerment and transformation of our communities towards equity.
