Class Description

This course examines marketing strategies in the U.S. today, with a focus on consumer culture. The course will provide students with the opportunity to analyze critically all modes of marketing strategies and tactics through a theoretical and practical approach. In doing so, students will assess how visual culture has adapted across different advertising mediums (i.e. print, television, online, film) especially given media's increasingly digital nature, while also considering the social, cultural and political impact marketing has on consumerism. Students will study the fundamentals of brand theory and how a product's positioning, packaging, pricing and advertising platform relate to consumer trends in the U.S. today.
