Course Catalog Description
This course in creative writing focuses on the craft of reading and writing creative nonfiction. The course emphasizes an introduction to craft—how creative nonfiction is generated, what its elements are, and how finished pieces work—which students will explore through careful study of models by published writers, and through writing and revising their own short pieces.
Class Description
In this asynchronous creative writing workshop you will work within a community of writers to tell your story & others’—working across a diversity of creative non-fiction genres, including personal profile, personal narrative, and an opinion piece. You will conduct an interview of someone in your community, post a blog entry, & craft a digital story. Through peer response and discussion posts, you will share your writing with one another, as well as get feedback from me. Most of all, you will immerse yourself in the craft of writing creative nonfiction and experience the joy—and agony—of writing what is meaningful to you and sharing it with a supportive and engaged audience!
